Path to Sustainability (and surviving the zombies)
Winter garden

Since I won’t be doing much landscaping in the back until I have better plans and more savings, I am going to be planting a winter garden in Smart Pots.  I have used these for my fruit trees in front, and this brand is great since they are fairly high walled.

one 200 gallon pot (50” base, 20” tall)

 - red & green leaf lettuce, buttercrunch bibb lettuce, mesclun mix, arugula, spinach.

one 30 gallon pot (24” base, 16.5” tall):

 - mix of root veg (carrots, beets, turnips, parsnips) to see what works in this depth of container

four 20 gallon pots (20” base, 14.5” tall):

 - 2x broccoli

 - 2x kale

five 10 gallon pots (16” base, 12.5” tall):

 - swiss chard

 - mustard greens

 - snow peas (w/trellis)

 - snap peas (w/trellis)

 - yellow peas (w/trellis)

Onions, garlic, radishes and herbs (thyme, sage, cilantro, parsley, chives) will be spread throughout as space permits.

Working my my old friends at @ Farmscape Gardens to get 2 cu yards of their favorite soil blend to fill all of these containers.  I also need to build a bunch of drip irrigation grids to fit these round containers.
